- Are allergic to Tenofovir disoproxil or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- Have kidney or liver problems
- Have bone problems

Pregnancy & Breast Feeding
- HEPBEST 25MG passes into your breast milk
- Talk to your healthcare provider about the best way to feed your baby
- If you are pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
Children & Adolescents
HEPBEST 25MG is recommended for use in
- HIV-1 infected adolescents aged 12 to less than 18 years who weigh at least 35 kg and who have already been treated with other HIV medicines
Driving & Using Machines
- If you feel dizzy while taking HEPBEST 25MG, do not drive and do not use any tools or machines
Interactions
Tell your doctor if you are taking,
- Any other anti-HIV medicines
- Medicines containing adefovir dipivoxil (a medicine used to treat chronic hepatitis B)
- Aminoglycosides, pentamidine or vancomycin (medicines used for bacterial infection)
- Amphotericin B (medicine used for fungal infection)
- Foscarnet, ganciclovir, or cidofovir (for viral infection)
- Interleukin-2 (medicine used to treat cancer)
- Tacrolimus (for suppression of the immune system)
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs, to relieve bone or muscle pains)
- Ledipasvir, sofosbuvir or sofosbuvir, velpatasvir to treat hepatitis C infection
How to Use
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- Take this medicine with food (for example, a meal or a snack)
If you take more HEPBEST 25MG
- If you accidentally take too many HEPBEST 25MG, you may be at increased risk of experiencing possible side effects with this medicine, contact your immediately
If you forget to take HEPBEST 25MG
- It is important not to miss a dose of HEPBEST 25MG
- If you miss a dose, work out how long since you should have taken it take it as soon as you can, and then take your next dose at its regular time
If you stop taking HEPBEST 25MG
- Don’t stop taking HEPBEST 25MG without your doctor’s advice
- Stopping treatment with HEPBEST 25MG may reduce the effectiveness of the treatment recommended by your doctor
Side Effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them
Serious
- Lactic acidosis (excess lactic acid in the blood) marked by deep, rapid breathing, drowsiness, nausea, vomiting and stomach pain
Common
- Diarrhoea, dizziness, rash, feeling weak
- Decrease in phosphate level in the blood
- Headache, feeling tired, feeling bloated, flatulence
Uncommon
- Pain in the abdomen caused by inflammation of the pancreas
- Breakdown of muscle, muscle pain or weakness
Rare
- Inflammation of the kidney, passing a lot of urine and feeling thirsty changes to your urine and back pain caused by kidney problems
- Softening of the bones (with bone pain and sometimes resulting in fractures), which may occur due to damage to kidney problem
- Fatty liver

Storage
- Keep this medicine out of reach of children
- Store at room temperature (15-25°C)
- Do not use this medicine after the expiry date
- Do not take tenofovir if you are already taking medicines that contain tenofovir in combination with other drugs.
- Do not take tenofovir with other drugs that can potentially damage your kidneys; especially adefovir (used in treatment of hepatitis B).
- Contact your doctor immediately if you notice symptoms: deep and rapid breathing, drowsiness, urge to vomit (nausea), vomiting, muscle pain or weakness, numb or cold feeling in your arms and legs, stomach pain, fast or uneven heart rate, or feeling very weak or tired. These might indicate development of a life-threatening side effect of tenofovir called lactic acidosis (excess lactic acid in blood). Lactic acidosis occurs more often in women, particularly if they are very overweight or are taking nucleoside antivirals for a long time.
- Tenofovir may damage your kidneys (nephrotoxicity). Constant monitoring of kidney function (blood tests to assess the health of kidneys) is advised while on treatment with tenofovir.
- Contact your doctor immediately if you have symptoms: persistent urge of vomit (nausea), upper stomach pain, itching, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (abnormal liver function causing yellowing of the skin or eyes). These might indicate development of severe liver damage.
- Decreases in bone mineral density can happen while taking tenofovir.
- Do consult your doctor before taking tenofovir if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
- Do not use tenofovir if you are breast-feeding.
- Tenofovir may cause lipodystrophy (changes in body fat – build up or loss of body fat) especially in elderly patients with HIV. Physical examination of fat redistribution and monitoring of blood levels of lipids and sugar may be advised in elderly.
- Discuss with your doctor about necessary precautions (practicing safer sex and making other life-style changes) to be taken to avoid spreading of HIV virus to others.

Q. Upset stomach (vomiting and diarrhea) is very commonly seen with Hepbest. Will it help if I take Hepbest with food?
No, Hepbest works best when taken with meals or just afterwards. However, taking it without food does not reduce its effectiveness.
Q. For how long do I need to take Hepbest for HBV infection?
Duration of treatment will depend on the severity of HBV infection. You will need to take periodic blood tests to keep a check on the viral load and number of T cells. Your doctor will then decide the duration of the medicine accordingly. In some cases, treatment is required life long.
Q. I vomited after taking Hepbest. What should I do?
Take another tablet of Hepbest if you vomit within 1 hour of taking it. If you vomit after more than an hour of taking Hepbest, then you need not take another tablet. Consult your doctor if you have vomiting every time you take Hepbest.
Q. What should I do if I forget to take Hepbest?
If you forget to take Hepbest within 12 hours of the time you usually take it, you should take Hepbest with food as soon as possible and resume the normal dosing schedule. If you miss a dose of Hepbest by more than 12 hours and it is almost time for the next dose, you should not take the missed dose and simply resume the usual dosing schedule.
Q. Can I breastfeed while receiving treatment with Hepbest for chronic HBV infection?
No, you should not breastfeed your baby since small amounts of Hepbest pass into breast milk. Further, if your baby does not have HIV or HBV, there is a chance that the baby can get HIV or HBV through breastfeeding.
