Introduction
What CAREPROST is used for?
- It is used to treat glaucoma which is characterized by high pressure in the eye
Warning & Precautions
Talk to your doctor before you take this medicine, if you:
- Are allergic to Bimatoprost or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- Have had to stop using eye drops in the past because of a side effect of the preservative benzalkonium chloride
- Have any breathing problems
- Have liver or kidney problems
- Have had a cataract surgery in the past
- Have or have had any problems with your cornea (front transparent part of the eye)
- Wear contact lenses
- Have low blood pressure or low heart rate
- Have had a viral infection or inflammation of the eye
Pregnancy & Breast Feeding
- If you are pregnant or breast feeding, think you might be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before using this medicine
Children & Adolescents
- CAREPROST is not recommended for use in children and adolescents under 18 years of age
Driving & Using Machines
- Your sight may become blurred for a short time just after using this medicine
- You should not drive or use machines until your sight is clear again
Interactions
Tell your doctor if you are taking,
- Tell your doctor if you are taking or have recently taken any other eye drops
How to Use
- Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- CAREPROST should only be applied to the eye
- The recommended dose is one drop in the evening, once daily in each eye that needs treatment
- If you use CAREPROST with another eye medicine, wait at least five minutes between using CAREPROST and the other eye medicine
- Do not use more than once a day as the effectiveness of treatment may be reduced
If you use more CAREPROST
- If you use more CAREPROST, wash with plenty of water and talk to your doctor
If you forget to use CAREPROST
- If you forget to use CAREPROST use a single drop as soon as you remember, and then go back to your regular routine
- Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose
If you stop using CAREPROST
- CAREPROST should be used every day to work properly
- If you stop using CAREPROST the pressure inside your eye may go high, therefore talk to your doctor before stopping this treatment
Side Effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them
Common
- Tired eyes
- Sensitivity to light
- Darker skin colour around the eye
- Darker eyelashes
- Sticky eyes
- Darker iris colour
- Difficulty in seeing clearly
- Irritation
- Burning
- Inflamed, red and itchy eyelids
- Tears, dryness
- Worsening of vision, blurred vision
- Swelling of the see-through layer which covers the surface of the eye
- Small breaks in the surface of the eye, with or without inflammation
Uncommon
- Cystoid macular oedema (swelling of the retina within the eye leading to worsening vision)
- Inflammation within the eye
- Retinal bleeding
- Swollen eyelids
- Eyelid twitching
- Eyelid shrinking, moving away from surface of the eye
- Skin redness around the eye

What is Glaucoma?
- Your eye contains a clear, watery liquid that feeds the inside of the eye
- Liquid is constantly being drained out of the eye and new liquid is made to replace this
- If the liquid cannot drain out quickly enough, the pressure inside the eye builds up

Q. Does Careprost work on eyebrows?
No, Careprost is not made for the growth of eyebrows. This medicine is used to treat hypotrichosis (less than normal amount of hair) of the eyelashes. It promotes the growth of longer, thicker and darker eyelashes.
Q. How do you apply Careprost for eyelash growth?
Careprost is recommended to be used once every night. It should be applied to the skin of the upper eyelid at the base of eyelashes. The face should be clean and any makeup should be removed. It should not be applied to the lower eyelid. Use a tissue paper to blot away any excess solution or other absorbent material outside the upper eyelid margin.
Q. How long does Careprost take for eyelash growth?
It may take about 4 weeks to see an improvement, whereas the full effect may appear after about 16 weeks. However, if you do not use it regularly, then it may take a little longer.
Q. What happens if I stop using Careprost?
If you stop using Careprost, the eyelashes may return to their previous appearance after several weeks or months. In case you have developed any eyelid skin darkening, it may reverse after several weeks or months. However, any change in the color of the iris is permanent and will not reverse.
Q. When to seek doctor’s advice while using Careprost?
Contact your doctor immediately if you have or have recently had any eye infection, injury, conjunctivitis, eye surgery, or an eyelid reaction. Discuss with your doctor on how long you have to continue using Careprost.
Q. Can I use other eye drops along with Careprost?
If you have to use other eye drops, wait for at least 5 minutes before using them. You should inform your doctor if you are using any other medicine too as it may interfere with the working of Careprost.
Q. Why should contact lenses be removed before applying Careprost?
It is recommended to remove the contact lenses before applying Careprost. It is because Careprost contains benzalkonium chloride which may get absorbed by the contact lenses and discolor them. The contact lenses can be re-inserted 15 minutes after you have applied the medicine.
