Introduction
What ROLIMUS 5MG is used for?
- ROLIMUS 5MG reduces the blood supply to the tumour and slows down the growth and spread of cancer cells
It is used to treat adult patients with
- Hormone receptor-positive advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women and advanced kidney cancer (advanced renal cell carcinoma), where other treatments have not helped
- Advanced tumours called neuroendocrine tumours that originate from the stomach, bowels, lung or pancreas. It is given if the tumours are inoperable and do not overproduce specific hormones or other related natural substances

- If you feel unusually tired (fatigue is a very common side effect), take special care when driving or using machines
Interactions
Tell your doctor if you are taking,
- Ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole or fluconazole and other antifungals used to treat fungal infections
- Clarithromycin, telithromycin or erythromycin, antibiotics used to treat bacterial infections
- Ritonavir and other medicines used to treat HIV infection/AIDS
- Verapamil or diltiazem, used to treat heart conditions or high blood pressure
- Ciclosporin, a medicine used to stop the body from rejecting organ transplants
- Imatinib, used to inhibit the growth of abnormal cells
- Nefazodone, used to treat depression
- Rifampicin, used to treat tuberculosis
- Dexamethasone, a corticosteroid used to treat a wide variety of conditions including inflammatory or immune problems
- Phenytoin, carbamazepine or phenobarbital and other anti-epileptics used to stop seizures or fits
How to Use
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water
- Do not chew or crush this medicine
- Rolimus 5mg should be taken without food
- Do not start everolimus and consult your doctor if you have liver problems, diabetes, high blood cholesterol, had a recent surgery or have unhealed wound after surgery, have infection, previously had hepatitis, are pregnant or breast-feeding or have intolerance to some sugars.
- Seek medical advice if you have increased thirst or increased frequency of urination, if you get any infection, suffer from shortness of breath, cough or fever, need to receive any vaccination after taking everolimus.
- Everolimus may affect male or female fertility; consult your doctor if you are planning to have a child.
- Do not drive or operate machinery while taking everolimus as it may cause fatigue.
If you take more ROLIMUS 5MG
- If you have taken too much ROLIMUS 5MG, or if someone else accidentally takes your tablets, see a doctor or go to a hospital immediately
If you forget to take ROLIMUS 5MG
- If you miss a dose, take your next dose as scheduled. Do not take a double dose to make up for the forgotten tablets
If you stop taking ROLIMUS 5MG
- Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor tells you
Side Effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them
Serious
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat
- Severe itching of the skin, with a red rash or raised bumps

- Increased temperature, chills (signs of infection)
- Fever, coughing, difficulty breathing, wheezing
- Excessive thirst, high urine output, increased appetite with weight loss, tiredness (signs of diabetes)
- Loss of appetite, nausea or diarrhoea, weight loss
- Disturbed taste (dysgeusia)
- Nose bleeds (epistaxis)
- Feeling weak or tired
- Pale skin, signs of low level of red blood cells (anaemia)
- Swelling of arms, hands, feet, ankles or other part of the body (signs of oedema)
- High level of lipids (fats) in the blood (hypercholesterolemia)
- Spontaneous bleeding or bruising (signs of low level of platelets, also known as thrombocytopenia)
- Trouble sleeping (insomnia)
- Difficulty in swallowing (dysphagia)
- Joint pain
- Menstruation disorders such as irregular periods
- Low level of potassium, phosphate and calcium in the blood
- Hair loss
Uncommon
- Coughing up blood (hemoptysis)
- Chest pain
- Abnormal wound healing
- Hot flushes
- Pink eye or red eye (conjunctivitis)
