What RIVAMER 3MG is used for?

  • RIVAMER 3MG is used for the treatment of adult patients with mild to moderately severe Alzheimer’s dementia, which is a progressive brain disorder that gradually affects memory, intellectual ability and behavior

Talk to your doctor before you take this medicine, if you:

  • Are allergic to rivastigmine, or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
  • Have or ever had irregular or slow heartbeat
  • Have or ever had stomach ulcer
  • Have or ever had asthma or severe respiratory disease
  • Have or ever had difficulties in passing urine
  • Have or ever had seizures(fits)
  • Have gastro-intestinal reactions such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea
  • Have a low body weight
  • Suffer from trembling
  • Have liver or kidney problems
  • Are undergoing surgery

Pregnancy & Breast Feeding

  • RIVAMER 3MG capsule should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly necessary
  • You should not breast-feed during treatment with RIVAMER 3MG capsule
  • Ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine

Driving & Using Machines

  • RIVAMER 3MG may cause dizziness and somnolence, mainly at the start of treatment or when increasing the dose
  • If you feel dizzy or sleepy, do not drive or use machines

 Interactions

Tell your doctor if you are taking,

  • Anticholinergic medicines (used to relieve stomach cramps or spasms, to treat Parkinson’s disease or to prevent travel sickness)
  • Beta-blockers (medicines such as atenolol used to treat hypertension, angina and other heart conditions
  • Metoclopramide (a medicine used to relieve or prevent nausea and vomiting)

 How to Use
  • Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
  • The highest dose that should be taken is 6.0 mg twice a day
  • Take RIVAMER 3MG twice a day, in the morning and evening, with food
  • Swallow the capsule whole with a drink of water
  • Do not open or crush the capsule
  • It does not cure Alzheimer's disease but may help improve brain function and ability to do daily activities.
  • It may cause diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Drink plenty of fluids to keep yourself hydrated while taking Rivamer 3 Capsule.
  • Do not drive or do anything that requires mental focus until you know how Rivamer 3 Capsule affects you.
  • Be cautious while taking this medicine if you suffer from peptic ulcer as it may cause vomiting, stomach bleeding, stomach pain, or discomfort.

If you take more RIVAMER 3MG

  • If you accidentally take more RIVAMER 3MG than you should, contact your doctor
  • In case of overdose you may experience nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, high blood pressure and hallucinations, slow heartbeat and fainting

If you forget to take RIVAMER 3MG

  • If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember it. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue as usual
  • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose

If you stop taking RIVAMER 3MG

  • Don’t stop taking RIVAMER 3MG without consulting your doctor

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them

  • Heartburn
  • Difficulty in sleeping

  • Stiff muscles, difficulty in carrying out movements and muscle weakness

  • Too much saliva and dehydration
  • Sweating
  • Headache

HOW TO COPE WITH SIDE EFFECTS?
The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.
Coping with Vomiting and Nausea
You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea. Eat bananas to replace potassium in your blood which can drop if you are sick (vomit). Use oral rehydration salts to replace vitamins and minerals lost through being sick. There are some medicines that can help you stop feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve.

Rivamer may take as long as 12 weeks to begin working. Response to the medicine differs from person to person. The clinical benefits of Rivamer should be assessed regularly. If after 12 weeks of treatment the symptoms do not improve, Rivamer should be stopped.

Q. What will happen if I take more than the recommended doses of Rivamer?
Taking more than the recommended doses of Rivamer may cause diarrhea, abdominal pain, dizziness, tremor, headache, sleepiness, hallucinations, and malaise. Higher doses may also cause confusion, increased sweating, and increase in blood pressure. In case you take an overdose of Rivamer, seek immediate medical attention.

Yes, Rivamer can cause drowsiness or sleepiness, especially at the start of treatment or when increasing the dose. If you feel dizzy or sleepy, do not drive, use machines or perform any tasks that require your attention.
Q. Can I stop taking Rivamer?
You should not stop or change the dose of Rivamer without consulting your doctor. However, if treatment is interrupted for more than three days, then do not take the medicine and consult your doctor. The doctor will re-initiate the treatment with a low dose twice a day. The dose can then be increased gradually as was done previously.
Q. Can Rivamer cause hallucinations?
Yes, Rivamer can cause hallucinations. However, hallucinations are reported very rarely with the use of Rivamer, which means they occur in very few people. It may usually occur shortly after dose increase.
