Introduction
What PTH 30MG is used for?
It is used,
- To treat secondary hyperparathyroidism in adults and in children aged 3 years to less than 18 years of age with serious kidney disease who need dialysis to clear their blood of waste products, whose condition is not controlled with other treatments
- To reduce high levels of calcium in the blood (hypercalcaemia) in adult patients with parathyroid cancer or primary hyperparathyroidism
Warning & Precautions
Talk to Doctor
Talk to your doctor before you take this medicine, if you:
- Are allergic to cinacalcet or any of the other ingredients of this medicine
- Have seizures (fits or convulsions)
- Have liver, kidney or thyroid problem
- Have or ever had heart failure, experience an unusually fast or pounding heartbeat, if you have heart rhythm problems
Pregnancy & Breast Feeding
- If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine
Children & Adolescents
- Children under the age of 18 with parathyroid cancer or primary hyperparathyroidism must not take PTH 30MG
Driving & Using Machines
- Dizziness and seizures have been reported by patients taking PTH 30MG. If you experience these side effects, do not drive or operate machines
Interactions
Tell your doctor if you are taking,
- Ketoconazole, itraconazole and voriconazole, used to treat skin and fungal infections
- Telithromycin, rifampicin and ciprofloxacin, used to treat bacterial infections
- Ritonavir, medicines used to treat HIV infection and AIDS
- Antidepressants such as amitriptyline, desipramine, nortriptyline and clomipramine
- Medicines used to relieve cough (dextromethorphan)
- Flecainide and propafenone, used to treat changes in heart rate
- Metoprolol used to treat high blood pressure
How to Use
- Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you
- Your doctor will tell you how much PTH 30MG you must take
- PTH 30MG must be taken orally, with or shortly after food
- The tablets must be taken whole and are not to be chewed, crushed or divided
- The usual starting dose for PTH 30MG in adults is 30 mg (one tablet) once per day
- Pth 30 Tablet treats hyperparathyroidism and high calcium levels in the blood.
- Pth 30 Tablet may cause dizziness or sleepiness. Do not drive or do anything requiring concentration until you know how it affects you.
- Inform your doctor if you start or stop smoking during treatment with Pth 30 Tablet.
- Your doctor may monitor your calcium levels regularly during treatment with Pth 30 Tablet. Inform your doctor if you notice signs of low calcium levels such as numbness or tingling around the mouth or muscle aches.
- Inform your doctor if you have a history of seizures, heart problems, or liver problems.
If you take more PTH 30MG
- If you take more PTH 30MG, contact your doctor immediately. Possible signs of overdose include numbness or tingling around the mouth, muscle aches or cramps and seizures
If you forget to take PTH 30MG
- Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose. If you have forgotten a dose of PTH 30MG, you should take your next dose as normal
If you stop taking PTH 30MG
- Do not stop taking PTH 30MG without consulting your doctor
Side Effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them
Serious
- Numbness or tingling around the mouth
- Muscle aches or cramps
- Seizures
- Swelling of the face, lips, mouth, tongue or throat which may cause difficulty in swallowing or breathing (angioedema)
Common
- Dizziness, headache, rash
- Numbness or tingling sensation (paraesthesia)
- Loss or decrease of appetite
- Muscle pain (myalgia)
- Weakness (asthenia)
- Reduced testosterone levels
- High potassium levels in the blood (hyperkaliemia)
- Allergic reactions (hypersensitivity)
- Seizures (convulsions or fits)
- Low blood pressure (hypotension)
- Upper respiratory infection
- Cough
- Indigestion (dyspepsia)
- Diarrhoea
- Abdominal pain
- Constipation
- Muscle spasms
- Back pain
- Low calcium levels in the blood (hypocalcaemia)
- Nausea and vomiting
HOW TO COPE WITH SIDE EFFECTS?
The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.
Coping with Vomiting and Nausea
You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea. Eat bananas to replace potassium in your blood which can drop if you are sick (vomit). Use oral rehydration salts to replace vitamins and minerals lost through being sick. There are some medicines that can help you stop feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve.

Yes, Pth can cause diarrhea in patients during treatment. This medicine may cause nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea as common side effects. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any such side effects.
Q. Does the Pth contains lactose?
Sometimes lactose is used while preparing Pth. Hence, before starting the medication inform your doctor if you have been diagnosed with any sugar intolerance like lactose intolerance.
