 How to Use
  • Take PRAMIPEX 1MG exactly as your doctor tells you to
  • Taking this medicine after food may lower your chances of getting nausea
  • Swallow the tablet with small amount of water
  • You have been prescribed Pramipex 1 Tablet to treat your symptoms of Parkinson's disease and/or restless leg syndrome.
  • For restless leg syndrome, take this medicine 2 to 3 hours before bedtime.
  • Avoid activities that require you to be alert, such as driving a car until you know how this medication affects you.
  • When you first start taking Pramipex 1 Tablet, it may cause sudden drop in your blood pressure when you change positions. To lower the chance of feeling dizzy or passing out, rise slowly if you have been sitting or lying down.
  • Talk to your doctor in case you develop hallucinations or other changes in your behavior.
  • Inform your doctor if you develop compulsive behaviors that are hard to control, such as binge eating, gambling, spending money, and sexual urges.
  • Do not stop taking the medication suddenly without talking to your doctor.

If you take more PRAMIPEX 1MG

  • If you accidentally take more PRAMIPEX 1MG, you should tell your doctor at once or go to the nearest hospital immediately

If you forget to take PRAMIPEX 1MG

  • If you miss a dose, do not double your next dose
  • Skip the dose you missed and take your next regular dose

If you stop taking PRAMIPEX 1MG

  • Be sure to tell your doctor right away if you stop taking PRAMIPEX 1MG for any reason. Do not start taking PRAMIPEX 1MG again before speaking with your doctor. If you have Parkinson’s disease and are stopping PRAMIPEX 1MG, you should stop PRAMIPEX 1MG slowly over 7 days

Serious
  • Falling asleep during normal daily activities
  • Low blood pressure when you sit or stand up quickly - you may have dizziness, nausea, fainting, or sweating. Sit and stand up slowly after you have been sitting or lying down for a while
  • Hallucinations - you may see, hear, feel, or taste something that isn’t there. You have a higher chance of having hallucinations if you are over 65 years old
Common
  • Nausea, constipation
  • Hallucinations, confusion, sleepiness, dizziness
  • Insomnia, muscle weakness and abnormal movements

HOW TO COPE WITH SIDE EFFECTS?
The occurrence of side effects varies from person to person. The following are a few ways of dealing with some of the common side effects. However, consult your doctor if these persist.
Coping with Nausea
You can help yourself by eating small, frequent meals rather than large ones and drinking plenty of fluids. Eat slowly. Avoid fatty, fried, spicy and very sweet foods. Eat cold or slightly warm food if the smell of cooked or cooking food makes you feel sick. Get plenty of fresh air. You could also try chewing ginger or drinking ginger tea. Eat bananas to replace potassium in your blood which can drop if you are sick (vomit). Use oral rehydration salts to replace vitamins and minerals lost through being sick. There are some medicines that can help you stop feeling sick. Speak to your doctor if your condition does not improve.

Hence, it is used to improve RLS.
Q. Is Pramipex a muscle relaxant?
No, Pramipex is not a muscle relaxant. It helps in improving movements and muscle control in Parkinson’s disease. It is a dopamine agonist and acts on dopamine receptors.
Q. Can I stop taking Pramipex if my symptoms of Parkinson’s disease have improved?
You should not stop Pramipex without talking to your doctor. Sudden discontinuation of Pramipex may cause neuroleptic malignant syndrome. The symptoms of malignant syndrome include loss of muscle movement, rigid muscles, fever, unstable blood pressure, increased heart rate, confusion, and depressed level of consciousness.

You should take Pramipex as directed by your doctor. The doctor will decide your dose depending on the condition you are being treated for. Preferably it should be taken 2-3 hours before bedtime. Swallow the tablets whole with water. It can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may help reduce the chances of nausea.

Pramipex may cause impulse control disorders in which you may have cravings or urge to behave in an unusual manner, which normally you would not do. Pramipex may also make it hard for you to resist the impulse to carry certain activities which can harm you or others, like addictive gambling, excessive eating or spending money. Along with that, it may cause an abnormally high sex drive or preoccupation with an increase in sexual thoughts or feelings.
